AT&T Watson Voice Recognition Technology & Speech API
AT&T Watson is a voice recognition tool that transcribes spoken words into text on the fly. Developers can integrate this technology into their own innovative mobile apps. Developers can also utilize the AT&T Watson speech API to bring their innovative mobile app ideas to life. Researchers plan on continuing to develop APIs for specific categories to ensure the best use of the technology.
Eyes-free texting app developed.
Georgia Tech researchers have developed an app which allows people to text without looking at the screen. BrailleTouch uses the Braille writing system which would make it familiar for blind people to use, but the researchers hope it could be developed into a system for sighted people looking for an alternative text-entry method.
Early studies with visually impaired participants proficient in Braille typing have demonstrated that users can input at least six times the number of words per minute when compared to other research prototypes for eyes-free texting on a touch screen. Users reach up to 32 words per minute with 92 percent accuracy with the prototype app for the iPhone.

Dovetail is a free smartphone app that transmits text messages to and from people physically near you, using only your phone’s built in wi-fi transmitter to communicate. Dovetail is not designed to send messages to a specific person. Instead, a message sent via Dovetail is “broadcast” to all other nearby users to create instant “group messaging,” akin to a mass tweet or old-school IRC chat. In other words, Dovetail enables one-click, group “chats” with all the people around you.
To increase wi-fi transmission range, a phone running Dovetail first receives a message and then automatically “re-broadcasts” the message to all other nearby users. That’s actually a very special idea. No matter how large the group becomes, your message will eventually reach all other users by “hopping” from phone to phone. And because Dovetail does not use cellular networks or Internet connections to transmit data, your messages cannot be tracked, censored, or shut down by government or corporations.

Echofi helps you find artists on Spotify that fit your tastes
Echofi is a simple web app that uses Spotify’s API to find music that’s more relevant to you. Simply search for an artist that you like, and Echofi will launch your desktop app with a song by a similar artist. You can then give the song a thumbs up or down using Echofi, and another song will be started for you. It’s kind of a Pandora-esque feature using Spotify.
